Rhode Island Democratic Party Charts New Course
Political Consultant Kate Coyne-McCoy to lead
Warwick- The Rhode Island Democratic Party announces the re-organization of party operations in RI today. Political strategist and RI native Kate Coyne-McCoy has been retained to develop and implement programs that will modernize the party and position Democrats to win from the top to the bottom of the ballot. Revising and rebuilding communications, grassroots organizing, data and finance, Coyne-McCoy will lead the Party through the 2022 elections.
“I am looking forward to working closely with Kate as we build an even stronger party that is prepared for the challenges of the 2022 election cycle,” said Democratic Party Chairman Joseph M. McNamara. “She will make sure Democrats in local, General Assembly and statewide races have a strong agenda and a grass-roots strategy to reflect the ever-changing needs of working Rhode Island families.”
Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi and Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio, in a joint statement, said: “COVID-19 changed the way people vote and engage with the electoral process. With Kate on board, our party will have the hands-on leadership and vision required to adapt our strategy to the new realities. She will make certain that Democrats up and down the ballot have the tools they need to build winning campaigns.”
Coyne-McCoy has worked as a political strategist and consultant for 20 years with campaigns and candidates at every level of government from local school board to U.S. President.
“I am honored to serve the members of the Rhode Island Democratic Party, and the Rhode Island voters who depend on Democrats for sound policy and government that works for all. I am eager to begin a building process that expands the reach of the party, that offers training and engagement for candidates, activists and voters. Moving into the post-COVID world, there is a great deal of work to do to prepare to win in 2022 and beyond. My goal is to build and modernize the Rhode Island Democratic Party and provide every tool needed to win campaigns to our candidates.” Coyne-McCoy stated.
Among the Democratic leadership in RI, there was unanimous support for Coyne-McCoy:
Statement from US Senator Jack Reed: “Kate is a seasoned communicator who brings real experience and energy to the task of strengthening the RIDP. Progress doesn’t happen without the hard work of organizing, strategizing, and building strong coalitions. She has the experience, leadership, and passion to communicate the party’s progressive, working-class values as we seek to build a brighter, healthier, more just and prosperous future for all.”
Statement from US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse: “I am thrilled that Kate has agreed to lend her expertise to the state party,” said U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. “Kate has a long record of success as a communicator and organizer, and she has a great instinct for recruiting talented candidates. I know she will be a force for electing Democrats up and down the ballot in the next cycle and well beyond.”
