STATEMENT BY R.I. DEMOCRATIC CHAIR ON TRAGIC SHOOTINGS IN BOULDER, COLORADO
WARWICK, R.I. – “For the second time in a week, America witnessed the senseless murder of innocent people who were doing nothing more than simply living their lives,” said R.I. Democratic Party Chair Joseph M. McNamara Tuesday.
“Ten people, in their 20’s to 60’s, didn’t get to go home yesterday after they ran to the grocery store. They didn’t get to eat dinner with their families, or watch the news with them, or text with them, or say their last goodbye to them. All because one man armed with a military-style weapon decided to unload it, in a supermarket, on ordinary people just living their lives,” McNamara said.
“We are heartbroken for the families who’ve lost their loved ones, and for the Boulder Police Department who lost a brave, 11-year veteran officer who ran into harms’ way to valiantly protect his community. We offer the people of Boulder our thoughts and prayers for the difficult healing ahead, and swift justice for the individual who caused this horror,” McNamara said.
